Wildcats Celebrate ‘Senior Night,’ Fall to Tigers

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – A missed tradition of Senior Night was experienced once again Monday evening. With five Wildcats playing their final home contest, Fort Valley State fell short of sending the group out on the winning side as Benedict College prevailed, 92-51, in women's basketball.

Jah'ne Brown netted the opening bucket off a pass from fellow senior Nyah Dismukes for a 2-0 FVSU (5-12/2-9 SIAC East). The Tigers (15-6/9-2 SIAC East), though, rattled off the next 11 points in the proceeding four minutes and never looked back.

FVSU saw senior Torri Myers pace the home team with 13 points and four rebounds. Brown was right behind with 12 points, two steals and three rebounds. Dismukes chipped in three tallies, five rebounds and two assists, while Faith Fantroy added two points and eight boards. Due to a knee injury, Kyla McIntosh, the final senior, was unable to play.

Benedict received 21 points from Ayanna Armstead for the game's top honors.

The two teams will play again in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 5, in a 1 p.m. tip.
