FVSU Claims Top Win of Season Against Allen

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – On one Saturday, the Wildcats put together an outing it had been searching to record. Fort Valley State established itself in the final seven minutes of the first half and never allowed Allen University threaten over the second period for the 73-57 men's basketball victory.
 
With a 3-point edge at 7:19 in the first half, the Wildcats (4-13) recorded the next seven points and 10 of 12 to open a 31-20 advantage. The home lead stood at 12 points for intermission and never dipped lower than 10 points the rest of the night. A James Pelham running jumper in the lane gave FVSU its largest lead of 19 points, 60-41, with 8:35 to go. Allen (4-13) cut the margin down to 11 points, 64-53, with 3:46, but it was unable to mount any more momentum.
 
K.J. Doucet led all scorers with 18 points on 6 of 10 from the floor to go with seven rebounds and three assists for the Wildcats. Pierre Mitchell and Jamal Reynolds, who also grabbed seven boards, added 10 points apiece. Kenton Eskridge hit three 3-pointers for nine points, while Ty'Reek Johnson and Jacobi Coleman had seven and six tallies.
 
Anthony Baker, Jr. finished with Allen's top honors of 15 points.
 
FVSU stays at home for a Monday night, Jan. 31, battled with Benedict College. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
