Miles Answers FVSU Run, Pulls Away Late

FAIRFIELD, Ala. – For the second time in as many games, the Wildcats started strong after the tip. Miles College used a late third quarter run and pulled away from Fort Valley State in the final period on the way to a 62-49 women's hoops contest.

FVSU (0-2) put the opening 10 points of the game on the scoreboard in the first 4:53. The Golden Bears (2-1) battled back to take the lead 49 seconds in the second quarter, 17-15, after back-to-back 3-pointers. Miles kept the edge until FVSU connected on three-straight buckets, the final two from Torri Myers, for a 32-31 advantage at 5:29 in the third quarter. The home team, though, answered with the following trio of baskets and never let the Wildcats get closer than three points, 37-34 and 39-36, in the final 14 minutes of play.

Shenikah Rachel made 7 of 13 attempts for a FVSU-best 17 points to go with eight rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Diamond Jones was the lone other double-digit scorer with 11 points and six rebounds. Myers added eight tallies on 4 of 7 tries to go with nine boards, two assists and two blocks. Amiya Allen contributed seven points.

Iemyiah Harris led all scorers for Miles with 18 points.

FVSU will now be off the next week until it opens Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Tuskegee University next Saturday, Nov. 26, in a 2 p.m. ET tip.
