Wildcats Push SIAC East Champ Tigers in Home Finale

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Honoring their lone senior Destinee Jackson, the Wildcats pushed the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East champions. Fort Valley took Edward Waters to extra points in the first and third sets, but the visitors prevailed, 3-0, on Thursday night.

FVSU (6-21) held set point, 24-23, but Edward Waters (24-9) scored the next two and eventually captured a 28-26 opening set win. The Tigers kept the momentum in the second set for the 25-11 win. A Jackson kill gave the Wildcats a 26-25 advantage in the third set only to see the Tigers put the final three points on the scoreboard for their second 28-26 win.

In her final match, Jackson downed a team-high seven kills to go with five digs, a block and an assist. Both Morgan Gooden and Kaila Copeland added six winners. Copeland also had 12 digs and Gooden three aces. Laiani McCullough handed out 30 assists and dug 12 attacks to go with a pair of blocks. Sarah Rosario added 14 digs and Syraih Wint lined a trio of aces and three kills.

Fatima Ramirez led Edward Waters with 16 kills on the night.
