McCullough and Copeland Gain SIAC Setter and Newcomer of the Week Awards

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats picked up a pair of honors following the end of the fall season last Thursday evening. Fort Valley State's Laiani McCullough and Kaila Copeland gained the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Setter and Newcomer of the Week awards.

Following a road match at Benedict and home match versus Edward Waters, McCullough and Copeland led the Wildcats (6-21) efforts.

Taking over as the team's setter partway through the season, McCullough registered two double-doubles in the matches. The Beaufort, S.C., native handed out 26 assists to go with 10 digs at Benedict before she added 30 assists and 12 digs against Edward Waters.

For the season, McCullough finished with 525 assists (5.77/set), 181 digs (1.99/set), 52 kills, 33 service aces and 24 total blocks in 91 sets played.

Copeland from Stockbridge, Ga., wrapped up her first season with two quality matches. The freshman posted 18 digs, 10 assists, seven kills and two aces in the last two matches. The outside hitter/setter had 10 assists with six digs and an ace at Benedict. Kaila recorded 12 digs, six kills and an ace in the season finale against Edward Waters.

In 83 sets played, Copeland completed the season with 49 kills, 47 assists, 144 digs (1.73/set), 26 aces and 19 total blocks.
