FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats pushed past a slow start and made up for it in the final two periods. Fort Valley State doubled its output in the second half and ground out a win over LeMoyne-Owen, 54-48, in women's basketball Saturday afternoon.

The Magicians (2-5/1-2 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West) doubled up its host 16-8 in the opening 10 minutes and enjoyed a 25-19 intermission advantage. FVSU (2-4/2-1 SIAC East) used the first five minutes of the third frame to turn the tide with a 6-1 spurt to tie, 26-26. Only a couple minutes later, Amiya Allen stole a pass and raced to the other end for the layup for the first home lead, 30-28, at 1:45 in the third. The Wildcats never gave up the advantage despite the difference going down to just two, 36-34 and 38-36, in the opening minutes of the fourth, before they pulled away in the end.

Allen led the Wildcats on the afternoon with 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting off the bench. Kyndall Thomas contributed an all-around nine points and six rebounds. In her first start, Ace Stevenson chipped in eight points and four boards, while Ja'Nya Ferguson added seven tallies and eight caroms. Torri Myers rounded out the contributors with six points and nine rebounds.

Kike Ojo and Robbie Johnson led LeMoyne-Owen with nine points apiece.

FVSU will have a quick turnaround where it will host Lane College on Monday evening, Dec. 3, in a 5:30 p.m. home tilt.
