Eagles Hold off Two Final-Inning Wildcats Pushes, Edge Both Games

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats showed great progress in their second twinbill of the season. Fort Valley State had two seventh-inning pushes to rally, but Trinity Baptist held off each and edge out close 3-2 and 6-4 softball wins Friday afternoon.

Trailing 3-2 in the final at bat of the opener, Tiffany Rose led off the home charge with a single up the middle. FVSU (0-4), though, could not move her around to score against Trinity Baptist (4-1). Down 6-3 in the late contest, Hailey Bracey and Amaya Pagan started the comeback attempt with a double and a single, before Destiny Fitzpatrick loaded the bases with no outs on an error. Bracey ran home to score on a Makayla Cruz fielder's choice, but was all the Wildcats were able to muster to fall by the 6-4 final.

On the 15-hit FVSU attack, Alera Buie and Bracey doubled with one in each game at the plate. In game two, Bracey, Lavette, Pagan and Fitzpatrick each produced a pair of hits. Cruz added a run-scoring hit and Morghan Holland lofted a sac fly in the opener and a single in game two. Rose, Jakiyra Lemmon, Rasheedah Hasan and Eryndurah Jones finished with one hit apiece.

In the circle, Caprice Johnson scattered seven hits and one earned run with five strikeouts over seven frame of game one for the Wildcats.

FVSU continues its search for the first win of 2022 on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12, in a 1 and 3 p.m. home doubleheader against Ohio Christian.
