Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Tough Out Overtime Victory Over Golden Rams

ALBANY, Ga. – In a game separated by no more than two possessions the entire contest, the Wildcats proved to have the best extra five minutes. Ja'Nya Ferguson's offensive putback 1:23 into overtime gave Fort Valley State the initial extra-period points and never trailed on the way to the 65-62 overtime victory over Albany State in women's basketball Saturday evening.

Ferguson, in fact, accounted for four of the Wildcats (7-13/5-10 SIAC East) six overtime points with the third bucket at 1:51 for a 60-54 lead. The Golden Rams (8-14/6-7 SIAC East) cut the margin to a point, 63-62, with 17 seconds. But the visitors would get a rebound each from Diamond Jones and Ferguson for the 3-point difference, before a potential tying long-range ASU shot was no good for the final.

Jones paced all scorers with 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, for the Wildcats. Torri Myers came off the bench for 16 tallies to go with eight rebounds and five assists, while Jah'ne Brown recorded 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Ferguson posted the high-rebound outing of the FVSU season with 18 caroms to go with nine points.

Kayla Milner finished as the lone ASU double-digit player with 10 points.

FVSU will have a week off until it plays at Clark Atlanta on Tuesday night, Feb. 22, in a 6 p.m. contest.
