Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

FVSU Executes in Final Moments, Prevails over LeMoyne-Owen in SIAC 1st Round

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Wildcats grabbed a couple plays from earlier in the season and converted them with perfection. Fort Valley State executed in the final moments and prevailed over LeMoyne-Owen College, 48-45, in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament First Round.

After she netted the final bucket of third period, Torri Myers ran off three-straight more hoops and pushed FVSU back into the lead, 35-32, in the early fourth quarter. But, it was the final Wildcats execution, which gave them the victory. Down 46-45 with the inbounds in front of its own bench, Kyndall Thomas found a cutting Myers on the inside for what would be the game-winner with 24 seconds and a 46-45 lead. Diamond Jones added a pair of free throws on the next Wildcats play and a desperation Magicians trey was no good for the final.

Myers led all scorers with a game-best 20 points on 9 of 17 shooting, including nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Jones and Amiya Allen added six points apiece, while Ja'Nya Ferguson and Nikki Culbreath grabbed nine and six rebounds.

Patrisha Lollis was the top point producer for LeMoyne-Owen with 17 points.

FVSU trailed 17-9 in a rocky first period, but it gained its footing in the second frame by a 10-5 margin to set up the back-and-forth second half.

FVSU will now have Tuesday off, before it plays the SIAC East Champion Savannah State in the SIAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 2, in a 12 p.m. contest.
