FVSU Women’s Hoops Return to Win Column, Defeats Allen

COLUMBIA, S.C. – After facing the defense Conference champions Saturday, the Wildcats were glad to go across the street on Monday night. Fort Valley State held off host Allen University and returned to the win column Monday evening with a 61-59 victory.
 
The Wildcats (6-13) doubled up the home team in the first quarter, 14-7, and increased it to an eight-point margin by half, 29-21. The Yellow Jackets came back and outscored the visitors by four in the final 10 minutes, but fell short by a bucket in the end.
 
Point guard Diamond Jones led the FVSU charge with 15 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Jah'ne Brown added 12 tallies, five rebounds and three assists. Torri Myers posted a double-double of 10 points and 13 caroms along with three assists, while Ja'Nya Ferguson pulled down 11 rebounds and scored six points.
 
Cardrina Nolen led Allen with 15 points and nine rebounds.
 
FVSU will now be off until it treks to rival Albany State on Saturday evening, Feb. 12, in a 6 p.m. tip.
