Farquharson and Yates Picked for SIAC Men’s Volleyball Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – After splitting a pair of home matches, two Wildcats played their way ways to weekly league awards. Fort Valley State's Oshane Farquharson and Justin Yates were picked as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player and Setter of the Week honors.

In his best back-to-back games of the season, Farquharson of Hollywood, Fla., pounded 28 kills with eight errors in 48 total attempts for a .417 hitting percentage. He also added two assists, two service aces, four block assists and 13 digs in seven sets of action. Last Friday, the outside hitter downed 11 kills, two assists, three blocks and four digs against Morehouse College. On Sunday afternoon, Farquharson produced 17 kills and nine digs versus Edward Waters.

For the fourth time this season, Yates from Carlsbad, Calif., was selected for the Setter of the Week honor. Yates totaled 70 assists, nine kills and nine digs in FVSU's two matches. The freshman recorded 24 assists, six kills and three digs against Morehouse. Yates set his new high mark of assists in a match with 46 to go with three kills and six digs versus Edward Waters.

FVSU returns to the court in its biggest match of its first campaign in a 6 p.m. Saturday night, March 26, contest against powerhouse UCLA.
