My name is Dr. Linda Bell. I am the Director of Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator at Fort Valley State University. My journey in sports began when I was 12 years old. I moved from Bridgeport, CT, to Roanoke, Virginia. I am the only girl of 4 brothers. The person that initially influenced me to play sports was my middle school gym teacher Mrs. Turk. She also was the person that encouraged me to pursue other sports such as basketball, volleyball, and track.

My entire athletic career, I have always been a three-sport athlete. Not realizing my journey has just begun. My high school Basketball Coach Roland Lovelace was like a father figure. He always said that "EFFORT COST YOU NOTHING." He also influenced each player that college was attainable through sports by having good grades, excellent work ethic, and self-discipline.

This same mentality led to my career in coaching. As a graduating senior, Emory and Henry College allowed me to be their Head Volleyball Coach. As a first-time head, we attained one of the goals, and that was to win more games than the previous year. A year later, I took on the role of being a 2-sport coach and administrator at Livingstone College, where we created an environment of winning attitude.

Upon leaving Livingstone college, I completed my master's degree. I took on the role of a Lecture and Volleyball Coach at Elizabeth City State University. I also took on the role of the Director of Compliance within 4 months of my arrival at Elizabeth City. When arriving at the university, my goal was to create diversity in the volleyball program and win championships. Not knowing that there would be some life-changing moments during my tenure as an employee.

I had created both a diverse program and a championship environment.   I wanted to give all student-athletes the same experience my players had experienced. The NCAA has a Matching grant program, and Elizabeth City was granted the funds to create a full-time compliance position.

As Athletic Administrator, I have the opportunity to work with all student-athletes and create a student-athlete-friendly environment that allows students to gain additional athletic and educational experience. I have been blessed to work at other Division II institutions,  work with national champion student-athletes, gain a wealth of knowledge, work with some great people, be a part of 3 NCAA Division 2 National Championship Committees, and the NCAA Division 2 Football Super 2 Region RAC Committee.

I still believe that EFFORT COSTS YOU NOTHING, and I am continuing my goal of being a great administrator that supports student-athletes in their life journey.
