Wildcats Take Magicians to Highlight Day 2 of SIAC Crossover

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – Completing the two-day event, the Wildcats recorded another win. Fort Valley State took down LeMoyne Owen to highlight Day 2 of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball Crossover before Lane and Spring Hill College prevailed in the other matches.
 
FVSU (3-11) rallied from a tough first set (14-25) to sweep the next three (25-22, 25-18 and 27-25) to defeat LeMoyne Owen. The Wildcats started strong (25-15) against the Dragons, but they could not keep it in falling 3-1 (22-25, 12-25, 22-25). Spring Hill had FVSU's number in the third bout in straight sets (25-7, 25-9, 25-5).
 
Against the Magicians, Laiani McCullough posted an all-around effort with 41 assists, 11 digs, six kills and four aces. Destinee Jackson and Kaila Copeland downed 12 kills apiece. Copeland added 10 digs, two assists and an ace, while Jackson finished with three digs and two blocks. Sarah Rosario dug 15 attacks.
 
After dropping the first set, FVSU netted set two's first-six points and never trailed (25-22). Down 7-6, the Wildcats scored the next nine points and 12 of 13 in the third set to go on for the 25-18. Trailing 25-24, Jackson killed the next point and Copeland followed with back-to-back winners to end the match, 27-25.
 
FVSU will have a week off until it travels to Frankfort, Ky., for matches against both Central State and Kentucky State next Saturday, Oct. 1.
