Wildcats Look for More Home Success Over Weekend

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats host their first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East matchups over the weekend. Fort Valley State hosts Allen University and Benedict College on the women's basketball court over the next three days.

FVSU (3-9/3-6 SIAC East) fell in both games last weekend on the road at Savannah State (85-69) last Saturday and Edward Waters (58-54) on Monday evening.

The Wildcats look to improve their 2-2 record in their home HPE Arena building. In their last and only game of 2023 at home on Jan. 4, FVSU evened the season series against Miles College with a 54-44 win.

Saturday's game should continue to be the third close game in a row of the short series. Last season's two meetings were decided by a combined 6 points.

Allen (6-6/3-5 SIAC East) comes into Saturday on a 3-game winning streak, including picking up a non-Conference Thursday night win at Paine College (70-49). The Lady Jackets took care of Spring Hill (73-57) on Jan. 4 and Clark Atlanta (70-60) 1on Monday.

FVSU aims to break 5-game series skid to a dominate team of the SIAC over the last few seasons in Benedict (3-11/1-7 SIAC East).

The Wildcats dropped both ends of two high-scoring meetings with the Lady Tigers last season. In fact, FVSU last claimed a win on Feb. 8 of 2020 in Fort Valley by a 63-60 final.

Benedict heads into their two road games (at Albany State on Saturday) on a 5-game losing streak. The Lady Tigers last win came on Dec. 5 in a 68-64 final over Kentucky State. Last week, Benedict fell short at home against both Clark Atlanta (67-50) and at Paine College (70-45).
