Benedict Uses Early 4th-Quarter Run to Take Care of FVSU

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats picked a bad spot to have a scoring drought Monday evening. Benedict College opened the final quarter on a 12-2 run in the first 3:46 and rode it to a 62-44 women's basketball victory over Fort Valley State.

Following a Ja'Nya Ferguson inside shot pulled the Wildcats (3-11/3-8 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) back to withing four points, 40-36, the Lady Tigers (5-11/3-7 SIAC East) netted the next 10 tallies and never looked back over the final six minutes.

Shekinah Rachel led FVSU in scoring off the bench with 11 points and six rebounds. Nikki Culbreath chipped in nine points, six boards and two assists. Both Kyndall Thomas and Diamond Jones added eight points and three assists. Torri Myers pulled down eight caroms.

Mahogany Randall finished with the game's top honors with 18 points.

FVSU led for the first six minutes of the contest, before Benedict edged ahead, 15-13, at the end of the frame.

The Wildcats cut an 11-point third-quarter deficit down to four by the end of the third quarter, 38-34.
