Jones Earns SIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Acclaim

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats' biggest back-to-back games since coming to The Valley grabbed some attention. Fort Valley State's Diamond Jones earned the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Despite FVSU dropping both contests of the week, Jones of Evergreen, Ala., averaged 26.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals. The senior made 17 of 39 shots (.436), 5 of 13 from 3-point land and 14 of 17 free throws.

At Edward Waters, the FVSU guard pumped in 19 points, including 8 of 9 free throws, to go with three rebounds, three assists and two steals in the close 58-54 loss.

Last Saturday afternoon, Jones set a new career best. Diamond hit 12 of the 23 shots she tried, 4 of 9 treys and 6 of 8 free throws for 34 points. She completed her day with four rebounds, three steals and an assist in the 73-59 loss to Allen University.

On the season, the Wildcats' point leader averaged 16.9 points and a team-best 3.4 assists per night. She also pulls down 3.8 rebounds and swipes 2.2 steals. Jones has 15 3-pointers and she previously set her career mark with 30 points at Central State on Dec. 17.
