Wildcats Falls Short in Back-and-Forth Game with Bears

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – A few possessions decide the outcome with two quality teams and it was the case Wednesday night. Fort Valley State erased a 10-point halftime deficit, but Miles College showed it mettle and had just enough to sneak away with the 55-50 back-and-forth men's basketball victory.

The Wildcats (7-7/5-2 SIAC East) put together furious early second-half charge to tie the game, 38-38, on a Myson Lowe layup at 11:54 remaining. FVSU took its first lead, 44-42, on back-to-back Quincy Young and K.J. Doucet buckets to start eight single-point lead changes in the final 8:30. Miles' Rodney Battle downed the final lead change with an inside jumper, 51-50, with 2:51 left. FVSU missed its only shot in the final two minutes and committed three turnovers as Miles edged out the tight win.

Lowe produced 13 points with three treys to pace the Wildcats. Both Doucet and Khadim Samb added 10 points, while Young made all four of his field goals for eight points.

Battle posted top scoring honors with 17 points to guide the Bears.

Miles led by as many as 16 points, 27-11 and 29-13, late in the first half, but FVSU received back-to-back triples from Lowe to help cut the difference to 10, 31-21, by half.

FVSU heads on the road for a Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, 3 p.m. game at Savannah State.
