JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Wildcats returned to the win column Monday night. Fort Valley State built a 16-point second-half lead and went on to take the men's basketball road game over Edward Waters, 70-63.

After a Joe Williams fastbreak dunk made it a 49-38 advantage, FVSU continues the spurt with seven of the next nine points to open a 56-40 lead with 13:13 on a Pierre Mitchell jumper. The Tigers (2-10/2-7 SIAC East) battled back in their home gym to within three points three times – 58-55, 60-57 and 62-59 – with 4:41 remaining. The Wildcats, though, would not relent as JaMarcus Scott sealed the win with a 3-pointer with 16 seconds for the game's final score.

With the win, FVSU returns to the .500 mark at 8-8 to equal its 2021-22 win total (8-20). The Wildcats also equal their SIAC East victories as they are now 6-3.

Khadim Samb paced the FVSU offense with 16 points on 7 of 11 field goals, including two treys. Myson Lowe added 13 points with a trio of 3-pointers to go with six assists and three boards.

Jamal Reynolds chipped in nine points, while both Mitchell and K.J. Doucet had eight. Scott downed seven points.

FVSU connected on 10 of 19 second-half attempts and 24 of 49 for the night. The Wildcats won the glass as well, 41-36.

Tavares Oliver had top honors for Edward Waters with 19 points.

FVSU returns to The Valley this Saturday afternoon, Jan. 14, in a 3 p.m. game against Allen University.
