JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Wildcats may have not finished the regular season Wednesday night in the fashion they would have liked, but the year's progress is undeniable. Fort Valley State wrapped up its breakthrough women's volleyball campaign with a tough road loss, 3-0, against the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East's top team, Edward Waters.

The Tigers (20-6/16-2 SIAC East) took a tied 4-4 first set to a seven-point lead, 11-4, and kept going to a 25-13 final. FVSU held strong in the second set and trailed only 6-4, 7-5 and 10-8 before the home team posted five of the next six points on the way to a 25-19 score. Edward Waters finished the night as it started with a 25-13 tally.

Despite the outcome, the FVSU squad reached double figures in victories at 11-16 for the first time since 2008 where the program finished at 19-14. The 11 wins were also the fifth time to reach double figure victories since the team was restarted in the fall of 2003.

Individually, Laiani McCullough handed out 19 assists to go with four digs, two kills and a block. She assisted on each of Morgan Hebert, Hallea Gibbs and Raven Edwards to a tune of five kills apiece. Hebert added nine digs, three assists and an ace. Gibbs also dug nine attacks and Edwards had three.
