FVSU Scores Pair in Sixth, Earns Late-Game Win Over Ohio Christian

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In an attempt to get some games played with the weekend rain set to come to the area, the Wildcats added a win Thursday afternoon. Fort Valley State took advantage of sixth-inning Ohio Christian errors to take the second contest, 3-2, after it dropped the opener by the same 3-2 final.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the home sixth, Makayla Cruz, Miriah Williams and Raven Webb all singled to load the bases with one out. Laila Leverett's grounder to short stop was misplayed and Cruz tied the game at 2-2. Following a second out, Krissi Maddox reached on an error by the visiting third baseman as Williams touched home plate for the winning run, 3-2.

After Destiny Fitzpatrick plated Alexia Scott, who doubled, in the home fourth of game one, Ohio Christian added another run for a 3-1 lead. Leverett doubled home Cruz, who led off the fifth with a double, to cut the margin to 3-2, but FVSU could get no closer the final two at bats.

On the afternoon, Cruz led the Wildcats with two doubles, a single and a run scored. Scott recorded a double and single as the lone other multi-hit player. Leverett, Fitzpatrick, Hailey Bracey, Williams and Raven Webb had the other hits.

Webb went six innings for her first collegiate win in the circle of game two. She scattered eight hits and one earned run with one strike out without a walk.

FVSU will have a week off before it travels to Gainesville, Ga., for a twinbill at Brenau University starting at 2 p.m.
