FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In a game where it felt it would go for the home team, the Wildcats left the floor in disbelief. Edward Waters' Emari Bell banked home a putback as time expired to slip past Fort Valley State women's basketball, 55-54, on Saturday afternoon.
After a Diamond Jones jumper from the elbow, FVSU (5-16/5-13 SIAC East) held a 54-44 lead with 2:14 left in the fourth quarter. The home bucket turned out to be the Wildcats final point. Edward Waters (10-14/6-12 SIAC East) netted the final 11 points from that point, including the final four by Bell with a layup at 18 seconds and the game-winner as time ran out.
Shekinah Rachel paced FVSU with 17 points on 8 of 14 from the field, nine rebounds and four steals. Jones contributed 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Torri Myers added 10 points and three boards.
Bell led all scorers with 19 points for the Lady Tigers.
The Wildcats led the majority of the afternoon with a 25-18 advantage at half and the same seven-point difference, 38-31, after three frames.
FVSU completes its regular season with a final home game on Tuesday evening (Feb. 21) against Savannah State starting at 5:30 p.m.
