Wildcats Repeat Victory over Magicians in SIAC Round 1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – History has a way of repeating itself and the Wildcats made sure it did Sunday afternoon. After a rocky early start, Fort Valley State was tough enough over the final three quarters and moved on in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Round 1 victory over LeMoyne-Owen, 55-51.

It was two days away from the same two programs meeting in the same round. FVSU (7-17) used a game-winning final quarter a year ago and it used a key eight-point run over the middle minutes of the final quarter in this edition. Trailing 43-40 with 6:44, Amiya Allen started the eight-straight points and Kyndall Thomas capped it with a fastbreak layup for a 48-43 advantage at 2:12 remaining. FVSU did not allow LeMoyne-Owen any closer than three points in the last two minutes for the win.

FVSU moves on to Round 2 for the second year in a row. It will now face the East Division's third-seed Benedict College on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
