Barnett and Gosier First Places Lead Wildcats in CAU Panther Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. – It was a good Wildcat first day at the track. Fort Valley State's Jazz Barnett and Donte Gosier claimed first places to highlight the track and field efforts at the CAU Panther Invitational on Saturday.

Barnett blazed her way to the top finish of the women's 100-meter hurdles in 15.44 and she was part of the sixth-place 4x100-meter relay. Gosier leaped to first place in the men's long jump by .16 meters and he was part of the FVSU fifth-place 4x400-meter relay.

Along with Barnett for the Wildcat women, D'liyah Austell and Nadejah Batts posted second-place finishes. Austell race to second in the 100-meter dash (12.43), third in the 200 meters (25.63) and also part of the 4x100 relay. Batts threw 38.20 meters for second in the hammer thrown and added a sixth place in the shot put (11.14m).

Aquila Kerr jumped to third in the long jump (5.13m) and fifth in the triple jump (10.62m) events. Briana Madison was not far behind Barnett in the 100 hurdles in fourth (16.17) and another member of the 4x100 relay. Miniya Miller joined Batts for fifth in the hammer throw (36.69m).

For the Wildcat men, Terrell Williams had a busy and productive day. Williams ran to second in the 800 meters (1:56.14, second by .26 seconds), part of the fourth place 4x400 relay (3:25.03 with Tyler Pendergrass, Da'Von Jenkins and Johnathan Kelly) and eighth for the 1500-meter run (4:14.90).

Kelly was also fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 50.39. Gosier was joined by Marcus Jefferson, Larry Turner and Teddy Swanson in the fifth-place 4x400 relay effort (43.54). Joe Williams and Jacob Pearson was the top FVSU field throwers with sixth places in the javelin (34.71m) and shot put (12.40m).

FVSU returns to Atlanta for the Morehouse Relays from March 23-25.
