FVSU Posts Quality Efforts at Life University Open

MARIETTA, Ga. –
After battling through tough weather conditions last weekend, the Wildcats tested their mettle in better conditions Friday. Fort Valley State track & field posted quality efforts with a combined 15 top four finishes at the Life University Open.
 
The Wildcat women accounted for 10 of the 15 top four finishes highlighted by second-place finishes by Briana Madison in the 100-meter hurdles, Shekinah Rachel in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x100-meter relay team. The FVSU men's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams both claimed third places.
 
Madison hurdled her way to her best time of the spring of 14.86 for her runner-up placing in the 100-meter event. Rachel and Jaylin Rivers crossed the 400-meter hurdle finish line back-to-back in second (1:11.13) and third (1:11.81). The women's 4x100-meter relay of Daveja Wilson, Aquila Kerr, Madison and D'Liyah Austell raced to a time of 47.83 for another second.
 
Austell also was third in the 200 meters (25.11) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (12.27). Montana Williams legged out third in the 10,000 meters (46:03.58).
 
Along with helping the 4x100-meter relay team, Kerr placed in three field events with a third in the triple jump (10.98m), fourth in the long jump (5.23m) and fifth in the high jump (1.42m). Rachel recorded a fourth right behind Kerr in the triple jump of 10.80m. Miniya Miller threw to fourth (37.72m) in the discus and both Ternya Gibson and Tania Hal tied for seventh in the high jump (1.37m). Tytiyana Tucker rounded out the effort with a seventh in the 100 hurdles (17.03).
 
For the men, the 4x100-meter relay team of Donte Gosier, Harold Shirley, Marcus Jefferson and Da'Veon Jenkins grabbed third in 41.98. Jenkins teams up with Jaden Rudolph, Teddy Swanson and Terrell Williams for another third place (3:33.59) in the 4x400-meter relay event.
 
Individually, Gosier and Swanson were fourth (6.60m) and sixth (6.51m) in the long jump. Jonathan Kelly ran to his own fourth place in the 800 meters (1:57.79) and a sixth in the 400-meter run (50.14). Andre Milner completed the day with a fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.87).
 
FVSU will be off until it goes up to Atlanta for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships at Morehouse College on Thursday – Saturday, April 27-29.
