Barnett and Pair of Men’s Second Places Feature FVSU Effort at UWG’s Legends Invite

CARROLLTON, Ga. –
The Wildcats tested their mettle against tough regional competition Saturday and held their own. Jazz Barnett won the 100-meter hurdles for the Wildcat women while both Joe Williams in the shot put and the 4x400-meter relay paced the men's side of the docket at the University of West Georgia's Legends Invitational.
 
Barnett won her second 100-meter hurdle event of the spring with a time of 14.89 seconds, 0.11 better than the second-place finisher and only 0.31 ahead of teammate Briana Madison, who took third.
 
After winning the shot put at last weekend's Morehouse Relays, Williams came up just short Saturday in second for the event with a throw of 14.51 meters. He also registered seventh in the javelin (38.21m).The FVSU 4x400-meter relay comprised of Terrell Williams, Da'Veon Jenkins, Jonathan Kelly and Cameron Tomlinson cross the finish line in second with a time of 3:24.14.
 
Back to the FVSU men's field events, Donte Gosier leaped to third in the long jump (6.64m) and Tyler Pendergrass cleared the high jump bar at 1.82m for sixth.
 
The FVSU 4x100-meter relay finished fifth in the field in 42.56, only .05 out of third place, with the quartet of Gosier, Marcus Jefferson, Jenkins and Harold Shirley.
 
For the FVSU women, the 4x100-meter relay team of D'Iiyah Austell, Madison, Tania Hall and Aquila Kerr grabbed third place in 48.50. Austell was also sixth in the 100-meters (12.39) and Jaylin Rivers hurdled to sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:15.57.
 
Shekinah Rachel leaped her way to fourth in the triple jump (11.01m). Kerr placed in two field events with a sixth in the long jump (4.97m) and seventh in the high jump (1.47m). Miniya Miller threw to sixth in the hammer throw (40.43m) and Na'dejah Batts was also sixth for the shot put (12.42m). Hall completed the Wildcat placers with eighth in the high jump (1.47m).
 
The FVSU track & field teams head down to Albany State for the Alice Coachman Classic event next Saturday, April 9.
