Fedd Leads Wildcat Half Dozen All-SIAC Men’s Volleyball Honorees

ATLANTA, Ga. – In year two, the Wildcats tripled their league award winners. Freshman Isaiah Fedd led a half dozen contingent of Fort Valley State players on the All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball teams.
 
Fedd was the lone Wildcat to be voted All-SIAC First Team, while five of his teammates – Jaxon Hicks, Justin Yates, Rashaun Wright, Taviian Martin and Diego Cardona received Second Team acclaim.
 
Garnering the top SIAC awards included Benedict's Ras Jesse Delancy as the Player of the Year, Victor Scherer from Central State repeated as the Libero of the Year and Kenyon Haynes of Edward Waters as the Setter of the Year. Edward Waters' Lauren Ford earned the Coach of the Year honor.
 
Following two All-SIAC Second Team members last year, Fedd of Apopka, Fla., becomes the inaugural Wildcat on the First Team. The freshman outside hitter burst onto the scene as he set the FVSU record for kills in a match with 33 kills with only three errors in 55 total attacks in his first home match of his career against King University. The first-year player was the SIAC's top server with 47 aces and second in the league with 331 kills and 3.48 kills per set. The two-time SIAC Player of the Week led the Wildcats in seven difference offensive categories including attack percentage (.267) and digs (134). Along with his record-setting kill night, Fedd recorded 30 kills to go with a season-high 13 digs and two aces at Benedict. He finished the regular season with 16 double figure kill matches, three double doubles, 11 times with six-plus digs and served up five aces in a match two times.
 
Despite leading the Conference in set assists for the second year in a row, Yates was relegated to the All-SIAC Second Team for the second time. The Carlsbad, Calif., product was a six-time SIAC Setter of the Week performer and led the league with 688 assists (8.19 assists/set) over 84 sets played. He also has 146 digs (1.46 digs/set), 42 kills, 27 total blocks and nine aces to his credit. Yates handed out a career-high 64 assists to go with eight digs, three blocks, two aces and two kills against King University. The sophomore posted two other 40-plus assist matches, including 39 assists in last week's tilt with Edward Waters. Yates had two double-doubles with 37 assists, 12 digs, three blocks, three kills and an ace versus Central State.
 
After being voted to the Preseason All-SIAC Second Team, Wright lived up to the billing as he made the Second Team squad. The middle blocker from D'Abadie, Trinidad & Tobago is one of the premiere SIAC blockers as he led the Wildcats for the second year in a row in the category with 56 total blocks, 12 solo, and a rate of 0.81 blocks per set. Over 69 sets, the sophomore downed 52 kills, a .248 attack percentage, eight aces, 26 digs and three assists. Wright recorded six matches where he hit over .555 and seven times registered four or more blocks in a match.
 
Making his first appearance on the All-SIAC Second Team, Hicks from Beach Park, Ill., is molding into one of the top all-around players in the Conference. As one of the top league kills leaders (2.35/set), the outside hitter finished second on the team with 209 kills, 15 service aces and 126 digs. The sophomore rounded out his numbers with 36 total blocks and 20 assists in 89 sets played. Jaxon has 12 double-digit kills matches, including a season-high 17 in the season finale against Benedict, and had his lone two double-doubles of 12 kills and 13 digs in the first meeting with Benedict and 11 kills and 11 digs against Central State.
 
Rising up as the season went on, Orangeburg, S.C.'s Martin powered his way to the Second Team at middle blocker. The 6-9 freshman put up points for FVSU with 50 total blocks, 11 solo, and 0.68 blocks per set over 73 sets played. Martin is sixth in the SIAC in hitting percentage (.263), while he stands third on his team with 138 kills. Taviian also has 40 digs, eight aces and five assists. Martin downed a season-high 15 kills in the final regular season match versus Benedict to go with three blocks. He had 14 matches with six-plus kills and four double figure kill matches along with nine contests of three or more blocks.
 
Completing the FVSU Second-Team members, Cardona of Miami, Fla., improved to being the second-best libero in the Conference for his first campaign. The freshman led the Wildcat libero rotation and had a team-best 526 serve receptions with a .935 success rate. In 90 sets played, the libero recorded 112 digs (1.24 per set) to go with 13 assists. Cardona set his season-high of 16 digs against King University and recorded three double-digit dig outings along with 12 times having five-plus digs.
