ATLANTA, Ga. – All the Wildcats hard work will culminate and best put to the test this week. The Fort Valley State track & field head up to Atlanta for the 2023 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships this Thursday through Saturday.

FVSU and the SIAC's other 10 members head to Morehouse College's Edwin C. Moses Stadium starting on Thursday morning (April 27) at 8:30 a.m. and running through Saturday late afternoon (April 29).

"I expect both of our Wildcat teams to finish in the top five. We have four conference champions back in the lineup and we have others ready to earn their spot on the podium," said FVSU Head Coach Brittany Cox.

The Wildcats have two 2022 SIAC champions for each of the men's and women's team looking to repeat. For the men, both Terrell Williams and Donte Gosier aim for more gold in the 800 meters and long jump. Returning champions D'liyah Austell and Na'dejah Batts for the Wildcat women in the 200 meters and shot-put events.

Last spring, the Wildcat men captured fourth place in the 10-team field with 80 points behind Benedict College, Morehouse College and Albany State. On the women's side, FVSU scored 69.5 points for fifth place of the 11 SIAC teams while Benedict College, Albany State, Spring Hill College and Savannah State in the top four.

FVSU aims to pick up a good number of points in the field events.

"I look for both teams to score in the shot put, the men's javelin and then the hammer throw and discus on the women's team. We also have good depth and talent in the jump events," explained Cox.

The Wildcat coach continued, "Contrasting our teams, I think the women should have good showings in the short distances and hurdles, while the men should pick up points in the 100 up through, he 800 meters. Now, in the relays, I expect both the men and women to be in the top five for finishes in both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays."

The FVSU track and field teams are ready to record some surprising performances for everyone, but themselves and moved up a spot or two in the 2023 SIAC championship team standings.
