Williams and Wildcat Women’s Duo Earn All-SIAC Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – As the opening day of the Championship starts today, three Wildcats picked up awards heading into the three-day event. Fort Valley State's Joe Williams earned All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field First Team honors in the men's shot put, while both Montana Williams and Na'dejah Batts picked up Second Team status for the women.
 
With the SIAC Track & Field Championships starting this morning and running through late Saturday, Williams will try to take the top spot in the shot put. He threw the longest distance during the season of 14.58 meters in the event to claim his First Team award.
 
On the women's side, both Montana Williams and Batts put up the second-best efforts in their events for the Second Team awards. Montana ran 43:03.58 in the 10,000 meters, while Batt threw 12.42 meters in the shot put.

SIAC Track and Field All-Conference Honors Announced
 
ATLANTA, GA. (April 27, 2023) –The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced the 2023 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference Team, released Thursday. The all-conference teams are comprised of student-athletes who were selected based on their athletic performance during the regular season.
 
Benedict dominated this year's men's all-conference team with 15 honorees and looks to defend their championship title at this year's championship. Morehouse trailed with seven selections followed by Albany State with five. Central State had three all-conference honorees ahead of Savannah State and Tuskegee who each respectively collected a pair of selections. Allen, Fort Valley State, Lane, and Spring Hill rounded out the men's all-conference team with one selection each.
 
This year's women's all-conference team was headlined by the defending champions, Benedict College, who placed 10 honorees on this year's team. Savannah State followed with eight selections followed by Lane who finished with six selections. Albany State and Central State each placed four on this year's all-conference team. Fort Valley State earned a pair of all-conference selections while Kentucky State, Miles, Spring Hill, and Tuskegee completed this year's women's all-conference team with one selection.

The Elite 14 award recognized the student-athlete who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the SIAC championship level in his or her sport while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Jireh Jones and Saniya Keeton of Tuskegee are this year's men and women's track and field Elite 14 recipients.
 
The 2023 SIAC Track & Field Championship is set to take place April 27-29, 2023, at Morehouse College's Edwin Moses Track in Atlanta, GA. For more information, click here. Events can be watched live on the SIAC Sports YouTube channel.
