Williams Second Place Highlights Wildcats SIAC Opening Day

ATLANTA, Ga. – As the first day went into the books, the Wildcats recorded four place winners. Joe Williams led the Fort Valley State results with a second-place finish in the men's shot put to highlight the team's efforts at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships.
 
Williams went into the Championships held at Morehouse College's Edwin Moses Stadium as the top seed, but he a strong second in his inaugural collegiate championships with a throw of 14.59 meters, 0.50 meters ahead of third place and .52 behind the top finisher from Lane College.
 
Both Aquila Kerr and Montana Williams were the Wildcat women's top finishers with both recording fourth places. Kerr leaped 5.25 meters in the long jump, while Williams ran 44:21.60 in the 10,000-meter run. Na'dejah Batts grabbed eighth in the shot put at 11.09 meters as the other FVSU point scorer.
 
Donte Gosier missed placing for the second year in a row in the men's long jump. He was ninth at 6.43 meters, which was only .02 meters from placing.
 
FVSU was fifth in both men's and women's standings heading into the second day of competition on Friday.
