Terrell Williams Wins 800 Meters, Wildcat Women Take 5th at SIAC Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. –
 The Wildcats can boast one champion on the track for 2023. Terrell Williams raced for the 800-meter men's title, while the Fort Valley State women put together a quality meet for fifth as a team in the final standings at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships.
 
By a narrow 12 hundredths of a second, Terrell Williams claimed the 800-meter title in 1:52.29. The Wildcat also ran his way to seventh in the 1500 meters earlier in the day with a time of 4:13.64.
 
For the women, FVSU's D'liyah Austell sprinted her way to a runner-up second-place finish in the 100 meters at 12.39, only 11 hundredths behind the winner, as the top final day placer.
 
In the final team standings, FVSU grabbed fifth place for the women with 78 points behind Benedict College (190), Clark Atlanta (113), Savannah State (102) and Albany State (100). On the men's finals, FVSU amounted 31 points for eighth place as Benedict College (215.5), Morehouse (184.5) and Albany State (121) were the top three.
 
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Jazz Barnett, Aquila Kerr, Daveja Wilson and Austell legged out third in 47.48. The other relay in the 4x400-meters – Shekinah Rachel, Austell, Jaylin Rivers and Barnett – were seventh (4:53.01).
 
Austell added a fourth place in the 200 meter sprints to her credit with a time of 25.11, missing third for the podium by only one hundredth of a second. Wilson also was a place winner in the event in seventh (12.92).
 
For the 100-meter hurdles, Briana Madison and Barnett were back-to-back in fourth (14.85) and fifth places (15.06). Montana Williams rounded out the women's runners with a time of 22:07.00 in the 5,000 meters for seventh.
 
Kerr leaped to a height of 1.55 meters for fifth in the women's high jump.
 
Along with his first and seventh individual places, Terrell Williams teamed up with Jonathan Kelly, Da'Veon Jenkins and Jayden Rudolph to capture fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:19.87).
 
Kelly raced to seventh in the 400 meters (49.73) and eighth for the 800 meters (2:02.65).
 
Completing the Wildcat men's placers, Joe Williams threw 43.87 meters in the javelin.
