FVSU Alum Rep. Smyre Inducted into SIAC Hall of Fame

ATLANTA, Ga. – One of the biggest longtime Wildcat supporters gained entrance for a special conference honor. Fort Valley State alum Representative Calvin Smyre was inducted into the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.

At the SIAC Football Media Day and Hall of Fame event, Smyre was one of six individuals and a national championship team to be inducted in front of a full College Football Hall of Fame arena in downtown Atlanta on Wednesday, July 12.

Along with honorably serving in the Georgia House of Representatives and sponsoring many important pieces of legislation over his years of service, Smyre is the founder and Chairman of the Fountain City Classic, Inc.

Now heading to its 33^rd year this November 4, the Fountain City Classic pits rivals Fort Valley State and Albany State in their annual football meeting held in Columbus, Ga. The FCC has been instrumental in providing both FVSU and ASU with an annual infusion of capital from the event. Under Smyre's direction, the FCC has become not only a rival football game on Saturday afternoon, but a week long of events into one of the biggest Classic games/events of each fall.
