Getting to Know the Wildcats Women’s Basketball Coach Robertson

8/9/2023 11:02:00 AM

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Almost a year in the books and an ending exclamation was made to finish the Wildcats last season. Fort Valley State women's basketball Head Coach Doug Robertson came late to the game less than a year ago, but he started to lay the groundwork for the success to come within the program.

Coach Robertson came to direct the Wildcat women's hoops team shortly after the start of the 2022 Fall Semester. After quickly learning his FVSU team and taking the players in the program under his tutledge,

Robertson 's team sat at 6-16 following the regular season with a 2-2 finish and were only five combined points from being perfect in the final two weeks. The Wildcats, though, took the solid last two weeks of momentum into the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as they took care of LeMoyne-Owen and then upset Benedict College in the second round. Robertson's initial team's run ended in the Quarterfinals at the hands of SIAC West runner-up Miles College, but it was the program's deepest post season runs in recent years.

Now with a full recruiting cycle under his belt and a full season working with the returning players, Coach Robertson aims for a continued rise up the SIAC ranks for the 2023-24 campaign.
