FORT VALLEY, Ga. – For the first time in four home matches, the Wildcat came up short. Fort Valley State rallied in the second set to tie the match, but Benedict College rebounded and took the next two sets to slip past the home team, 3-1, Friday evening.

The Wildcats (3-2/1-2 SIAC East) enjoyed early success in the opening set as they led 15-9 and then 18-11. The Tigers (2-0/1-0 SIAC East) ran off an 11-1 run to pull ahead and eventually took the game, 25-21. FVSU led 20-17 later in set number two before it took a Megan Gooden kill followed by a tandem block of Jayda Mikell and Michelle Lynch to tie the match, 25-23. Benedict came out strong in the third set and doubled up FVSU, 18-9, before taking away a 25-19 final to go up one game. Trailing 9-2 in set four, the Wildcats rallied with the next six points, but the Tigers answered with their own seven-point burst and rode it to the 25-17 score to end the match.

The FVSU frontline was led by Hallea Gibbs with eight kills. Nia Mack added six kills in 14 attacks without an error and was in on eight blocks. Lynch chipped in six kills of her own and had three blocks. Brooke Matthews and Raven Edwards added four kills each. "

Laiani McCullough handed out 18 assists and Morgan Hebert recorded 12 assists and two kills. Kaila Copeland dug 16 attacks and Syraih Wint had 10.

Kaiah Green led all hitters with 10 kills for Benedict.

FVSU will now be off until it travels to Macon next Tuesday for a 6 p.m. road match at Wesleyan College.
