Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Claw Back, Maroon Tigers Edge Final Seconds Win

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats were relentless in their bid for a Monday night hoops upset. After trailing by as many as a dozen in the late first half, Fort Valley State clawed its way back into the lead only to have Morehouse College edge out the victory, 69-65, in the final men's basketball seconds.

Behind by 11 points with 1:59 left in the opening stanza, FVSU made the final two buckets before half and pushed until an offensive rebound and layup by Joe Williams gave it the first lead of 54-53 with 8:33 remaining. An Antonio Pelham 3-pointer just over a minute later allowed the Wildcats to retake the advantage, 58-56. Kevan Eskridge tied the game with 57 seconds left at 65-65, but the visitors failed to put up another point. Morehouse scored with 23 ticks and added a pair of free throws four seconds later before FVSU missed its final three shot attempts in the final moments.

Myson Lowe recorded his top outing of the season. The junior guard produced 20 of his 24 FVSU-high points in the first half as he made all four of his treys in the first 20 minutes. For the game, Lowe made 9 of 15 field goals, 4 of 9 triples and both of his free throws to go with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Kevan Eskridge picked up the second-half slack with all 10 of his points. Davorian Rudolph also put in all eight of his tallies in the second half to go with six rebounds, a block and one steal. Williams chipped in six points and Khadim Samb had five points and five boards.

Amahn Decker paced Morehouse with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

FVSU will have one day off before it returns to Atlanta and faces Clark Atlanta on Wednesday night, Jan. 31, in a 7:30 p.m. meeting.
