FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats could not continue its recent momentum Tuesday night. In a tight match, Fort Valley State came out on the short side of the result and fell, 3-0, to Albany State in women's volleyball.
Midway through the first set down three, the Wildcats ran off four-straight behind a pair of Laila Hilton kills. It turned out to be the final lead of the set as the Lady Rams netted the final four points (25-21). FVSU held leads of 12-9 and 13-11 in set number two only to see ASU, again, score the final three points for a 25-20 final. The visitors went out to a 13-8 lead midway through the third set and FVSU could only get back to within two points (15-13) one time before the 25-21 score ended the match.
With the win, ASU (10-6) took the lead in the SIAC East at 8-2, while FVSU (9-3) dropped to 7-3 in the Division.
Benaye Kyle paced the home attack with 10 kills, two digs, an ace and a block. Antonique Coleman added six kills and three blocks. All three of Hilton, Dakotah Holmes and Caytlyn Sanford chipped in four kills. Holmes also had 10 digs and two blocks.
Sarah Rosario dug 10 attacks with two assists. Laiani McCullough contributed 15 assists and nine digs, while Jahyra Thomas had nine assists and four digs.
FVSU stays at home where it hosts Clark Atlanta on Thursday evening (Oct. 17) in a 6 p.m. first serve.
