Bulldogs Prevail over Wildcats

ORANGEBURG, S.C. The Wildcats renewed a gridiron series Saturday but they didn't finish on top. South Carolina State prevailed over Fort Valley State in a non-conference football match up, 30-6.

FVSU had a tough offensive day as it made it into South Carolina State territory three times and came away with only a Daniel Gibbs' 39-yard fourth-quarter field goal. The Bulldogs found the endzone two times in the second quarter and rode it to the win.

For the first time since 1964, the two teams met. FVSU drops to 4-3 overall and South Carolina State went to 4-2.

On a more defensive game, the Bulldogs outgained the Wildcats, 245-193 and won the turnover battle, 2-1.

Brandon Marshall led all rushers in the game for FVSU with 132 yards on 27 carries. Dejuan Bell added a 17-yard rush.

Quarterback Kelvin Durham completed only eight of 20 passes for 82 yards. Jamie Hampton pulled in four of those passes for 72 yards, while Za'Tarious Anderson went 17 yards on his one grab.

Defensively, Jaydn Walker led the Wildcats with six tackles, one for a loss. Both Kentrell Lawson and Cedric Hillsman both had four stops with one for a loss. Malik Harp chipped in four tackles, while Adeon Farmer had three tackles, one sack and a tackle for loss. Janorris Robertson registered the other FVSU sack and D.J. Wilson had one tackle for loss. Darnell Stephens picked off one Bulldog pass and had two tackles.

FVSU returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 26) in Atlanta when it plays at Morehouse College. Kick is set for 1 p.m.
