MACON, Ga. – The Wildcats are starting to be consistent on the court. Fort Valley State made quick work of its road women's volleyball match with a 3-0 win at Wesleyan College Wednesday night.
FVSU slowly edged its lead larger and then finished off the opening set with seven of the final nine points, 25-16. After the Wolves put the first point on the second set scoreboard, the Wildcats ran off 10-straight tallies and increased the margin to 21-5 before Caytlyn Sanford killed the final point, 25-12. FVSU started fast again in the third with the first five points, held an early 8-1 advantage and ended the match in going away fashion (25-16).
With the victory, FVSU has not won the last 11 meetings against Wesleyan College (2-9) and claimed its fourth-straight win to improve to 6-2.
Sanford took top frontline honors with eight kills, .400 percentage and two blocks. Dakotah Holmes downed six kills without an error in 16 swings with 10 digs, two aces and a block. Benaye Kyle added six kills, .556 attack, five aces and 11 digs. Antonique Coleman contributed three kills and four total blocks, while Nia Mack added two kills and two digs.
Laiani McCullough handed out 18 assists, dug four balls and had an ace. Jahyra Thomas assisted on seven kills. Chaiza Jones and Sarah Rosario cleaned up the back row with 14 and nine digs.
FVSU travels to Memphis, Tenn., for the second SIAC Crossover event. The Wildcats start the two days of matches on Friday (Oct. 11) in a 12 p.m. EST first serve against the host Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College.
