Wildcats Record Important Win over Yellow Jackets, Post Win No. 12

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats wrapped up their home slate with success. Fort Valley State took care of business and recorded an important straight sets win, 3-0, over Allen University Sunday afternoon.

After Allen led by four twice in the opening set, FVSU recovered and then rattled off the final four points where Sarah Rosario lined an ace for the final point, 25-21. The Wildcats took their four-point lead midway through set number two and finished off the set win with the last two tallies compliments of a Benaye Kyle kill, 25-22. FVSU continued the momentum, gained an early five-point lead and ended the match in the third set with a 25-17 score.

First, the Wildcats claimed its 12th victory, bettering its win total from last fall, and improved to 12-7 overall. FVSU went to 10-7 overall and kept its drive for a SIAC East playoff spot alive. It will control its own destiny this week when it takes on East Division leader Albany State on Tuesday night (Nov. 12) in a 6 p.m. start. FVSU also faces Clark Atlanta on the road for the final regular season match on Friday evening.

On the match, Laiani McCullough registered a final home double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs. Jahyra Thomas came on and chipped in 13 assists to go with two digs, an ace and one kill.

Rosario served up three aces, 15 digs and three assists on the back row defense.

Dakotah Holmes was the top hitter with 12 kills without an error in 26 attacks (.462), six digs and a block. Kyle added 11 digs to go with eight kills and a block. Caytlyn Sanford contributed six kills and Antonique Coleman had four kills and three blocks. Laila Hilton rounded out the hitting with five kills and a pair of blocks, while Nia Mack was in one a trio of blocks and two kills.
