MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Wildcats clawed the entire Tuesday night. Fort Valley State held tough, but host Georgia College put up the final six first-half points and held on for the 71-56 men's basketball win.
Davorian Rudolph drained one of his two 3-pointers and pulled FVSU (1-5) to within 21-19 with 7:11 in the first half. Georgia College (2-4) netted the next six points, added the final six tallies of the first half and did not allow the visitors closer than eight points in the second 20 minutes.
FVSU downed 11 of 27 attempts from 3-point land, while Georgia College won the glass battle, 49-33.
Off the bench, both Jaylen Jackson and Sayerr Senghore reached double figure for the Wildcats. Jackson hit four 3-pointers for his 12 points and had five rebounds, while Senghore made 5 of 10 attempts for 11 points to go with six rebounds, two assists and a block.
Rudolph made two treys as part of his nine points, while he added five caroms and three blocks. Khirus Doucet chipped in seven points and five helpers. Hassane Diallo contributed six points, five boards, two assists and one block, while Jahlen Jack drained a pair of triples for six points. Mike Robinson and Marcus Scott rounded out the scoring with three and two points.
Zyair Greene led all game scorers with 16 points for the Bobcats.
After the home team made the opening 3-point shot, Hassane hit a jumper for a 3-2 score. Georgia College netted the next seven points and held the lead the rest of the night.
Rudolph's first trey, as in the case of his second, drew FVSU within a point, 10-9. At the final moments of the first half, Senghore downed his only 3-pointer and made a layup 19 seconds later for a 35-28 deficit.
FVSU returns to the road this weekend when it plays at Spring Hill College on Saturday afternoon. Tip time in Mobile, Ala., will be 4:30 p.m. CST/5:30 p.m. EST.
