Full D2CCA Release
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Wildcats top season in the past decade-and-a-half reaped a final individual award. For the first time in program history, Dakotah Holmes became Fort Valley State's first D2 Conference Commissioners Association Women's Volleyball All-South Region Second Team as voted upon by the region's sports communicators.
Prior to today, FVSU has never had a D2 CCA women's volleyball South Region honoree. The South Region is made up of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Gulf South Conference and the Sunshine State Conference members.
Holmes, who was honored as the SIAC Freshman of the Year, joins the SIAC Player of the Year as the only two SIAC players, both on the Second Team, to make the 14-player All-South Region list.
The University of West Florida's setter Gabi Mouton received the South Region Player of the Year award as the top player.
Back to the Wildcat freshman, Holmes helped FVSU to its most successful season on the court since 2008 at 15-8, qualifying for the SIAC Tournament and making it to the Semifinals.
The Hampton, Ga., native led the Wildcats in the SIAC Tournament where she totaled 20 kills, 20 digs, four blocks, three aces and three assists over seven sets against Lane College and Albany State. The first-year player had 10 kills in each match and a double-double against Lane where she dug 13 attacks.
On the year, Holmes earned the SIAC Newcomer of the Week award two times. The outside hitter was one of FVSU's top three leaders in kills (202), kills per set (2.46/set), hitting percentage (.201), digs (222) and digs per set (2.71/set). Dakotah also totaled 22 total blocks, 18 aces and 18 assists. Holmes downed 12 kills and dug 14 attacks for a double-double with an ace, a block and an assist in the key 3-0 sweep at Albany State last week as the important victory to secure the SIAC Tournament position.
