FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats were battling with one of the league's best teams, but they fell a run short. In a game of scoring runs by each team, Benedict College recorded the last one to pull out the men's basketball win over Fort Valley State, 68-55.

After FVSU ran off 10-straight points midway through the first half to tie the contest, Benedict equaled the task with 10 unanswered of its own in the last three minutes of the first half for a 34-24 lead. Following one visiting point to start the second half, the Wildcats netted the next 10 to pull to within a point and tied the game a minute later, 36-36. The Tigers came right back with the following 11 points for a 47-36 advantage and only allowed the home team back to within eight points over the final nine minutes.

Each of the FVSU four seniors played parts of the Saturday effort on 'Senior Day.' Khadim Samb recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Kenton Eskridge made 7 of 9 free throws for his seven points and four rebounds. Joe Williams pulled down eight caroms with a dunk and Pierre Mitchell added two rebounds and an assist. Junior Myson Lowe had top home scoring honors with 15 points, including a pair of treys.

Benedict had Marshaun West come off its bench for a team-best 21 points.

FVSU remains at home where it will host Allen University on Monday night, Feb. 12, in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
