COVINGTON, Ga. – The Wildcats saw it momentum go astray with their lead Sunday afternoon. Leading 3-2 after four innings, Fort Valley State saw Alabama State use its hitting and defensive miscues for a 12-run outburst to take a 14-4 softball decision in five innings.
FVSU (2-6) scored single runs in the first three innings for its 3-2, including a Leah Leonard RBI single. Alabama State registered eight hits in its 12-run top of the fifth. Leonard slammed one-out solo homer in the home fifth, but it was not enough to continue the game due to the eight-run rule.
Leonard finished 2 for 3 with the two run-scoring hits of a single and solo home run with one run scored. Mariah Williams was 3 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored. Alexia Scott lined two hits in two at bats with a double, while Laila Leverett had the other hit.
FVSU returns home on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20, in a twinbill against Paine College with game times of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
