Pearson Takes Men’s Shot Put, Wildcats Place 4th at Morehouse Relays

ANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats recorded a solid effort over the last three days of the annual event. Joshua Pearson threw to the shot put title and Fort Valley State placed fourth as a men's team at the Morehouse Relays.

Pearson bested teammate Joe Williams by .33 meters for the shot put title, 14.13 meters to 13.80 meters. The Wildcat thrower also claimed fourth place in the hammer throw at 38.45 meters .

As a team, FVSU posted 89 points for fourth, host Morehouse College wons its own event with 186 points, while Albany State was second (130 points).

Staying in the field events, Joe Williams added a fourth in the javelin (38.49m) and seventh in the discus (35.74m) to go with his runner-up placing in the shot put. Christian Ector pole vaulted to a height of 3.05m for sixth. Bashan Wesley leaped his way to fourth in the long jump (6.37m) and fifth in the triple jump (13.49m).

FVSU garnered third place in each of the 4k Distance Medley, Sprint Medley and 4x200-meter Relays. In the 4k Distance Medley, the Wildcat quartet of Elijah Taylor, Jaden Rudolph, Ector and Terrell Williams ran to a time of 11:47.55. For the Spring Medley Relay, the group of Waylon Williams, Da'Veon Jenkins, Cornelius Cooks II and Terrell Willams crossed the line in 3:40.19. In the 4x200-meter Relay, Jenkins ran first with Adetoro Adenuga, Waylon Williams and Cooks following for a time of 1:28.21.

The FVSU 4x100-meter relay – Jenkins, Cooks, Adenuga and Waylon Williams – finished fourth (41.24). Terrell Williams ran his way to the team's other fourth-place finish for the 800 meters (2:00.58) and he was seventh in the 1500 meters (4:26.50). Cooks raced to fourth in the 100-meter dash in 10.63.

The Wildcat 4x400-meter Relay comprised of Rudolph, Taquarrion Bryant, Andre Milner and Terrell Williams were fifth (3:29.34).

Waylon Williams grabbed sixth place in the 200 meters dash (21.94), while Milner took sixth in the 400 hurdles (58.32) and seven for the 110 hurdles (16.39).

FVSU returns to action next Friday and Saturday (April 5-6) at the University of West Georgia's Legends Invitational.
