Wildcats Take Care of Maroon Tigers in Three

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats remained perfect in league play Friday evening. Fort Valley State used a complete team effort and took care of Morehouse College, 3-0, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball.

Leading 19-16 late in the opening set, FVSU ran off the last six points behind Isaiah Fedd's two kills and two aces for a 25-16 final. In Set 2, Oshane Farquharson and Jonathan Mattews turned a Wildcat 5-4 deficit with a trio and a pair of kills to their credit and 11-6 advantage. Matthews and Farquharson continued their guiding of the home set number two effort with the final five points via two kills apiece and a Matthews ace for a 25-17 final score. Morehouse led early in the third set, 11-9, before Saferino Dour and Devonte Payton both downed a winner and teamed on a tandem block to take a lead it would not lose at 15-10 and eventual 25-18 end tally.

With the victory, FVSU improved to 8-5 overall and tied its win total for each of the program's first two campaigns. The Wildcats are also 3-0 in the SIAC.

Farquharson led the final home stat line with eight kills without an error in 11 attacks (.727), five digs and a block. Payton added six kills without a miscue in 10 swings with three digs, an assist, an ace and one block. Fedd downed kills in all five of his attacks for a perfect percentage and served up four aces. Matthews and Jaxon Hicks also added five kills each.

Setters Jaequon Henderson and Jose Gallardo handed out 14 and 13 assists. Devin Harris chipped in nine assists to his credit, while Jordan Brown had two kills and seven digs. Demetrius Paul finished with a pair of kills and Shadrac Metayer dug one attack.
