FVSU Completes Perfect SIAC Docket, Wins Regular Season Title

COLUMBIA, S.C. The Wildcats took care of their Sunday business and can check off two season goals. Fort Valley State completed its perfect Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball schedule with a 3-0 sweep at Benedict College and claimed its first regular season title!

The Wildcats ran off the final five points of the opening set and started off the day right when Chey Cooper killed the final point, 25-12. In a tighter second set, Isaiah Fedd ended it with a kill and 25-23 final. After Benedict held an early 6-4 third set lead, FVSU came back and reversed the momentum and ended the match on taking eight of the final nine points for the 25-14 score.

For the first time in the three-year program existence, the Wildcats are SIAC regular season champions! FVSU finished its regular season with a record-win total at 15-8 and completed the perfect SIAC mark of 10-0. In fact, FVSU won 30 of 31 sets played and dropped only the second set on Friday night at Edward Waters stopping it from 10 match sweeps. Taking away the opening California trip against Pepperdine, UCLA and USC, FVSU won 15 of the 20 matches or a .750 win percentage.

FVSU will move to be the top seed in the upcoming SIAC Tournament from this Thursday through Saturday (April 18-20) held at Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Fla. The matchups will be announced in the next two days.

On Sunday, Cooper led the Wildcat offense with nine kill and one error in 15 swing for a .571 percentage to go with two digs, a block and an ace. Fedd added eight kills and two errors in 13 attacks (.462) with two aces, two digs and a block. Taviian Martin registered seven kills and four blocks, while Jaxon Hicks had six kills (.500), three aces and three digs.

Jamil Scott contributed four kills and three digs. Jaequon Henderson handed out 33 assists and Diego Cardona dug eight attacks. De'Vonte Payton served up a pair of aces and Saferino Dour chipped in two blocks.
