FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats met their toughest opponent in a few weeks in the home finale. After the home team tied the match following the second set, Reinhardt University edged out the next two and clipped Fort Valley State in four sets, 3-1, in men's volleyball action.
Following two points in a row, Isaiah Fedd pulled the Wildcats (11-8) to within a point, 24-23, but the Eagles took advantage of a service error for the final point (25-23). FVSU ran off six of seven points to take a tie into a 24-19 late lead in set two befere a Jose Gallardo kill finished it (25-20) for a 1-1 deadlock. Reinhardt, though, held on in the late points of the tight match for the third and fourth sets to win both by 25-21 and 25-20 finals.
Fedd paced the FVSU attack with a second 20-plus kill night with 21 winners at a .405 percentage to go with six digs, two blocks and four aces. Chey Cooper added eight kills, seven digs, two assists and two blocks, while Jaxon Hicks contributed six kills and a dig. Raheem Thomas chipped in six kills, five blocks and two digs.
Gallardo directed the attack with 27 assists to go with two kills and four digs, while Jaequon Henderson posted 13 assists and four digs. Saferino Dour registered three blocks and three kills with Jordan Brown a pair of blocks of his own. Devin Harris dug two attacks and had an ace, while Diego Cardona had six digs.
Gabriel Gutierrez led Reinhardt with 19 kills.
FVSU makes its longest SIAC road trip this weekend with a Friday (April 5) match at Kentucky State starting at 6 p.m.
