FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats fell a shot short on Saturday afternoon. Edward Waters recorded a 4-point play with 46 seconds and slipped past Fort Valley State, 87-83, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action.
Trailing 81-78, Jaylen Jackson drained a trey and Khirus Doucet added a layup for a FVSU 2-point lead, 83-81, with 1:01 remaining. Only 15 seconds later, the Tigers made a trey and converted the foul shot for the 4-point play and 85-83 edge. The Wildcats final 3-pointer and jump shot after an offensive rebound did not go through the net and fell short.
The FVSU (3-11) is its first of the 2025 part of the docket, while Edward Waters went to 10-5 on the season and 6-1 in the SIAC East.
The Wildcats were efficient on the offensive side with 32 of 62 field goals (51.6%) and even better from beyond the arc at 57.1% (12 of 21).
Sayerr Senghore led the home effort with a double-double of 17 points on 7 of 12 field goals with one 3-pointer and 10 rebounds. Doucet posted a career-high 16 points where he made all three of his treys, while he handed out five assists and grabbed three rebounds.
Marcus Scott kept his surge going with 14 points, including 4 of 6 triples, and three boards. Jahlen Jack connected on 6 of 12 attempts for 13 points and had two assists.
Jackson added 11 points off the home bench to go with two rebounds, two assists and two assists. Antonio Pelham hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points and blocked a shot. Hassane Diallo contributed four points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Micah Glover stole a ball in the final first-half moments and turned it into his two points.
Myles Hosten paced the Tigers with 22 points.
FVSU stays at home where it will entertain Savannah State on Monday evening, Jan. 13, in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
