FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats fell short in their first 2025 home appearance. Fort Valley State could not take advantage of an opening set point, fell in the close third set and saw the University of Mount Olive slip past it, 3-0, on the Friday evening men's volleyball court.
After trailing by as many as five points, FVSU (0-3) ran off three points in a row off kills from Jamil Scott and Isaiah Fedd for a 25-24 set point in the first set. UMO, though, ran off the next three points for the 27-25 win. Following the Wildcats tying the set number two at 11-11, the Trojans posted the ensuing nine points and went on for a 25-14 victory. FVSU pulled to within a point, 19-18, in the third set before the teams alternated points over the next 11 as UMO edged a 25-23 final to end the evening.
Leading the home effort, Fedd pounded 13 kills with only one error in 23 swings for a .522 percentage to go with two aces, three digs and a block.
Oshane Farquharson assisted on 12 kills and downed a pair of kills. Jose Gallardo added nine assists and a dig.
Raheem Thomas accounted for five kills, five digs and two blocks. Khairi Mitchell contributed three kills, two digs and a block, while Jamil Scott had two kills and three digs. Hicks added two digs, two blocks and two digs. Jaequon Henderson dug three attacks.
The same two teams will wrap up their two-game set on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, with a 1 p.m. first serve.
