Wildcats Take Road Battle with Clark Atlanta, 3-1

ATLANTA, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (18-4, 12-2 SIAC) defeated Clark Atlanta University (1-21, 1-12 SIAC) in four sets Tuesday evening.

The Wildcats opened the match with a 25-22 win in the first set. After Clark Atlanta took an early 5-2 lead, FVSU battled back with a four-point run to go ahead 8-7. The teams traded points through the middle of the set before the Wildcats pulled away on a three-point run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Benaye Kyle, to make it 20-16. Caytlyn Sanford sealed the set with a kill.

The Panthers edged out the second set, 29-27. The two teams went point-for-point throughout before CAU rallied from a 24-21 FVSU lead to take control and even the match.

FVSU dominated the third set from start to finish, rolling to a 25-8 win. The Wildcats jumped out to an 8-2 lead and extended it as Kyle sparked a six-point service run to make it 14-3. A Clark Atlanta attack error secured the emphatic set win.

The Wildcats carried their momentum into the fourth, cruising to a 25-9 victory to clinch the match. With Kyle again at the service line, FVSU went on an 11-point run to take a commanding 15-2 lead. A late four-point stretch and a final kill from Kyle sealed the win.

Kyle led the offensive charge with 22 kills while hitting .304. Dakotah Holmes added 12 kills and recorded a double-double with 10 digs, while Sanford chipped in seven kills on a .357 hitting percentage. Morgan Hebert paced the offense with 37 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double of her own.

Defensively, Sarah Rosario anchored the back row with 18 digs, followed by Naoma Yancey with 14, and Holmes and Hebert each with 10. Imani Stokes dominated at the net, posting three solo blocks and two block assists, while Hebert added two solo blocks and two assists.

The Wildcats return home on Friday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m., hosting the Golden Rams of Albany State University.
