Wildcats Fall 3-1 on the Road at GCSU

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Women's Volleyball (10-2) fell in four sets on the road at Georgia College & State University (10-6) Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats took the opening set 25-23, but not without a fight from the Wildcats. Just when it looked like GCSU was pulling away at 8-3, FVSU put together a five-point run with Imani Stokes at the service line to tie it at eight. The Wildcats later rallied again, knotting the score at 19 apiece with Morgan Hebert serving. The Bobcats ultimately claimed the first set on a decisive kill.

GCSU took the second set 25-18. The Wildcats stayed competitive, using a five-point run to take an 11-10 lead with Sarah Rosario serving. However, the Bobcats responded immediately with a 9-1 surge and closed out the set with two straight points.

Fort Valley State battled back in a thrilling third set, taking it 30-28. The Wildcats strung together several three-point bursts to keep the score tight throughout. Benaye Kyle sealed the set with back-to-back kills to extend the match.

The Bobcats responded in the fourth, using an 11-2 scoring run to take the set 25-17 and secure the match.

Kyle had a standout performance for the Wildcats, leading the offense with 23 kills while hitting .380 and adding 14 digs for a double-double. Dakotah Holmes notched another double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs, while Brooke Matthews added eight kills on an impressive .533 hitting percentage. Hebert paced the attack with 42 assists and contributed 14 digs.

Defensively, Naoma Yancey anchored the back row with 28 digs. Holmes and Hebert followed with 14 apiece, while Matthews led the blocking effort with two block assists and a solo block.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 at the second SIAC Crossover in Memphis, Tenn., opening play at 2 p.m. CT against LeMoyne-Owen College.
